Jun Jun

So on Wednesday February 6th, Sarah and I went to the Leafs game. We volunteered with the Daily Bread food bank for a food drive outside the Air Canada Centre. Our reward was two tickets to see the Buds play the Florida Panthers. What a relief that these tickets were free. The blue and white got trampled by the Panthers. It was already 1-0 when we got our seats. Even the nosebleeds have a pretty good vantage point of the game. After an unanswered four goals they pulled Toskala. I won't go into detail about the humiliation of game but we left with about ten minutes left in the third period and it was 5-0. The ended up being 8-0. Embarassing.

We decided to grab a bit to eat at my most favourite sushi joint in the city. Their sushi isn't anything to really write home about but they have some of the most creative and tasty maki rolls I've ever tasted. I started with the house special the "Jun Jun Roll"

This thing is pretty delicious. Barbecue Eeel, Tuna, Avacado with some Salmon Roe on the top. The eel is still warm and the texture of the roe is pretty cool as you're chewing, they're bursting in your mouth. Decently priced as it's on the house special board for 6.95

Sarah had the vegetable roll set. Three each of carrot, mushroom, pickled radish, cucumber, avocado and egg. Again, very reasonable at 9.95

Next on my gluttonous mastication frenzy was the "Salmon Dragon". Not just a clever nickname. The presentation on this puppy is awesome. It looks like a dragon. Weird! Salmon and avacado. Cover tempura fried shrimp and cucumber. Delicious. This one is on the pricy side but still won't break the bank at 8.95

Lastly the roll to end all rolls. The "Crazy Tuna Roll". This thing is the reason I frequent the establishment. It's a regular maki roll with cooked tuna in the middle. Delicious in it's own right but they don't stop there. In order to achieve sushi nirvana, they tie off the ends of the roll before it's cut and dip it in tempura batter. A good session in the deep fryer and this puppy is ready to be chopped up. The presentation isn't much too look at, but man oh man, this shit is off the hook. It's all warm and tasty and they cover it in the this red sauce stuff. Dipping it in soya sauce would be like committing culinary Sepeku. Well worth it at 6.95
